ACP defends chess-whistleblowers


Citizens with a conscience are not going to ignore wrong-doing simply because they’ll be destroyed for it: the conscience forbids it.

Just in the past few weeks two top professionals, GM Georgiev and GM Koneru, were victimized by their respective federations for making public comments exposing wrong doing and/or gross incompetence by high ranking members of their federations.  In Kiril Georgiev’s case, his federation suspended him for 3 years (!). Koneru is still awaiting to be informed of her punishment

The president of the Association of Chess Professionals, GM Emil Sutovsky, today published a letter on the ACP website fully supporting both grandmasters and offering the ACP’s support to help pay for any legal costs that may be necessary to defend both players’ being wrongfully punished and singled out as examples.
