Come-back Queen does it again!

30-year old Natalia Pogonina is going to play in the finals of the Sochi World Women’s Championship!

Coming from behind to win yesterday’s game against Pia Cramling, the Russian superstar forced a decisive tie-break today, which she won despite stiff and heroic play by her Swedish opponent.

It is still not known who will be Natalia’s adversary in the finals, as the tie-break between the Harika and Mariya Muzychuk has not yet finished.  Today’s victory over Cramling is the third straight match that has seen Pogonina come from behind, force a tie-break and then decisively outplay her opponent.  The fans LOVE it!

It has been an exciting day in Sochi!  Harika missed several winning chances that would have catapulted her into the finals, but nerves were difficult to control.

As a result, Mariya Muzychuk qualifies and we will now see a final between a Russian and a Ukrainian.  Good luck to both players (who I understand are friends)!  I favour the chances of the Russian, but the Ukrainian is higher rated!

There is an excellent report on today’s action written by Peter Doggers HERE.
